W: The architecture of this city can be read in three layers. The oldest is low, built of brick, with arches over every door because that was the only way to carry weight then. The second layer, from the nineteen sixties, is concrete and flat: cheap, fast, and now the least loved. The third is glass — the high-rise offices along the river. M: Please look at the printed quotations while I compare them. Notice that the cheapest quotation is also the slowest, and the fastest is not the most expensive. Company D cannot start until June, which rules it out however good the price. Between the other three, the committee prefers the one that can finish before the school year begins in September, even though it costs eight percent more than the lowest bid.我比較時請看印出的報價。請注意最便宜的報價也是最慢的，而最快的並不是最貴的。D 公司要到六月才能開工，價格再好也出局。在其餘三家中，委員會偏好能在九月開學前完工的那一家，即使它比最低價高出百分之八。
